哈利路亞(2):應用 Hallelujah (2): Usage — 3 Comments

  1. Good to know. Thank you.
We sang a song this past Sunday and I noticed that the lyrics goes ‘Make everything I do a Hallelujah…’. I wouldn’t notice the possible misusage here (Am I right?), if I hadn’t read this.

    • Yes, you are right. I think we can guess that the author of the song probably meant to say “make everything I do a praise.” If it still makes sense, I can usually accept it as long as it is not causing confusion. In the long run, however, if the author or more people can understand the meaning of Halelujah, it will be better and lyrics like this can be avoided.

Some might think people like myself are too critical/judgmental. I am trying not to, but the fact is Halelujah is not just a sound. It is a sentence (despite being one word) from a real language, so it has to make sense when it is used. Imagine if we say, “讓我所作的每件事情都成為一個你們要讚美耶和華”. It just doesn’t make sense.
